Organic Mustard SeedMustard seeds are the small round seeds of various mustard plants. The earliest reference to mustard in India is from the story of Buddha in the 5th century BCE. Mustard is also mentioned in early Muslim and Jewish texts. In the Christian New Testament, faith is spoken about in the context of a mustard seed.

Mustard became popular in England in the early 1700s when it was served as a paste with meat. Mustard is often served as a cold condiment, because cooking the mustard reduces the flavor. Yellow mustard, which gets its color from turmeric, is popular in America. Coarsely ground seeds are used to make brown mustard. Dijon mustard (from Dijon, France or elsewhere) is another popular type.
Organic production fosters cycling of resources, promotes ecological balance, and conserves biodiversity. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Organic Program (NOP) develops, implements, and administers national production, handling, and labeling standards. Organic farming excludes or strictly limits the use of manufactured fertilizers, pesticides (which include herbicides, insecticides and fungicides), plant growth regulators such as hormones, livestock antibiotics, food additives, and genetically modified organisms.
